Don’t ya just love things that stand up boldly and make you take notice? I loved that about this orchid. It is strong and vibrant, and so very much itself even though many parts of it were really quite delicate seeming.
This type of orchid can bloom for 6 to 10 weeks, and I am extremely grateful since it took me six to complete this painting, and photographs can obscure details in many parts of the plant.
One of the things I found most interesting was watching the colors darken over time. You always learn such a lot about the plant itself, and it’s life cycle, whenever you paint something new.
And it is fun watching the painting grow into being at the same time.
So. I present The Lady Slipper. I hope you fall in love with it, too.
Also, for you in the Minneapolis area, the original will be on display at the Bakken Museum from July 22nd until mid-October. Go check it out! The museum is gorgeous–and I think the painting came out well, too. 😉
