Half Measures

date

What do you do when you feel like everything you are doing is halfhearted at most, because you don’t have the time and energy to devote to any one thing? You pretend you are too clever by half and paint half a painting.

Painted Lady butterflies are so fun to paint that I think I do one every year. The Color2 series is about half done and this is the newest installment. I maintain that having a plain background is to better showcase the details of the wings. It is certainly not an attempt to work through endeavors more quickly. *cough* *cough*

It’s summer again. Everything is turned up to turbo speed, the house is under construction (as always), and it’s a game of just try to keep up (as always). On this morning’s walk, Jewel’s “You were meant for me” played on my music mix and the line “I feel half-alive, but I’m mostly dead” struck me. How often do we push too long and too hard and end up in a state where that resonates a bit too strongly?

We’re halfway through 2024 already, and I am still trying to juggle new opportunities with old endeavors and the combination isn’t really working. I doubt many people have noticed that I have unintentionally all but quit posting on social media. I can’t seem to do things and post about them at the same time. So I am going to call it official and take a break from posting for a bit and try to sort things out. I’d rather take a break and return posting things that are fun for me to share, than trudge along thinking of it as another to-do list item.

So – I will see everyone in the fall (where hopefully things will calm down enough that I can get back to the botanicals. I have a stolen fig that keeps hovering in my awareness that I would really like to tackle). Have a great summer, everyone!

  1. I love this years painted lady. As to posts – smart to take that off your to-do list.
Look forward to seeing you next week.

  2. Enjoy your break from posting! Have a great summer of doing whatever you want!! I’m enjoying listening to Jewel right now too. Love it, thanks for sharing!
