Scissors and Experiments

So often I make fun of my family, because despite not being your typical North Dakota, we still so completely fit the cliches we’ve been socialized into. One of the things that I still can NOT figure out is the continual loss of scissors. I swear, I believe my family EATS them. It is the only rational explanation. And while my husband may try to pin it on the child, this problem was pre-existing, and also tied into the loss of screwdrivers (the tool kind, not the alcohol kind), which is why I have several emergency sets of both scissors and screwdrivers where only I know where they are. (Side note: No matter how crappy and cheap the tool I purchase is declared by my husband, they will still, at some point, end up in his tool box. As do screwdrivers with flowered handles, etc. He may sneer, but he will still steal them).

I try to keep two pairs of scissors in the junk drawer in the hopes that when I need a pair, there may be one. Both pairs have been missing in action for the past week.

In the interest of fair play, I will admit that I just stumbled across one pair in the laundry room, and it was completely and totally my fault. I was moving dried plants away from my fireplace and hanging them in the basement, and I left them sitting nearby. I hereby acknowledge my responsibility for that pair.

Of course, that doesn’t cover the other missing pair, the 7,892 pairs I have purchased since our marriage, nor the fact that when my husband cleans his shop thoroughly, I often get three or four pairs back.

I can only assume he has them stashed for an occasional snack.

In an attempt to rectify the missing scissor situation, he purchased new scissors from Amazon. They came in packs of two. Somehow, he managed to buy three packs by accident. Since I just found the set in the laundry room, this means we now have seven pairs of scissors in the junk drawer.

Anyone want to place bets on how long it takes before the drawer is empty of scissors again? One to one odds on about 10 days.

In other news, the framing situation is coming together. Not quite settled , but should be soon. Needs a bit more work, but since the saw is in the garage, and it’s negative 31 degrees today, I may not get out there in the immediate future to finish things up.

In the mean time, I have been experimenting. A friend gave me liquid watercolors, which I had never heard of, and since there is something so satisfying about melting stuff, I got out my powders and put this piece together. Given I had and have no real idea of what I am doing with these things, I am considering it a win. Though one assumes I would get better with more practice, I am now going back to my regularly scheduled work load.

  2. Love your new masterpiece. Considering no experience working with the liquid watercolors, you did an amazing job!
