I haven’t the slightest idea how on earth I have managed to not see these flowers before. I can be a remarkably oblivious person at the best of times, but really. Blanket flowers (Gaillardia) were absolutely everywhere I looked this year, and they make me unbelievably happy. Don’t know which ones they are? These!
Which means that I have spent a decent number of days in the fields near NDSU taking about a zillion images of these blossoms this summer.
Judging by the amount of wildlife abounding on these forays, I am assuming that the insect population also has a large appreciation for these brightly colored blooms. Which, since I end up hunting bugs on any photography excursion, means I was doubly pleased with life. At some point I am sure these flowers will make their way into a painting or two, but in the mean time I am enjoying the hunt.
Of course, this means that I sometimes have a bit of difficulty in distinguishing which images are truly good, and which ones just make me smile. So I am sharing my top favorites (so far), and letting you be the judge.
